The evolving human rights crisis in Uganda

I have been following the alarming developments in Uganda by reading Gay Uganda's blog. Rachel Maddow first brought my attention to the anti-homosexuality bill, and the role of U.S. religious organizations in promoting anti-homosexual attitudes. Box Turtle Bulletin has been providing extensive coverage of the story. Craig and Marc Kielburger, co-founders of Free The Children, wrote yesterday in The Huffington Post "The Evolving human rights Crises in Uganda" the implications of this bill on Uganda's ability to fight HIV / AIDS.

I have been in contact with Gay Uganda, and he suggests that the best thing we can do is pressure our governments to oppose the criminalization of sexual minorities. Uganda appears to be partially backtracking, dropping their support for the death sentence and instead favoring life imprisonment for homosexual conduct, but this crisis is not going away until there is a safe environment for Ugandan gays and lesbians.
